Take Me to the Art Hat

You can't miss it: emblazoned in bold orange text on the first wall in the SAM's downtown location reads "Take Me to the Art." There are no intellectual niceties or academic subtlety here, this greeting is intentionally populist and fun. It is a component of the SAM's larger identity; that of a bold, youthful museum that seeks to bring art to a city that itself has an instinctual avoidance of things it considers stodgy, old-fashioned or elitist.

The Seattle Department of Design took this iconic demand and embroidered it on a cap. The cap not only implies "hey, I like art" but also neatly addresses our pandemic-induced artlessness of these last few months. This garment-dyed hat also features a SDoD logo on the side, and the slogan "SAM Connects Art to Life" on the back.

All profits from this collection will be donated to Coyote Central in Seattle's Central District, an organization dedicated to arts education for Seattle's underserved youth. Learn more and donate at https://coyotecentral.org/
